The Supreme Court has decided to open up an expression of interest forum for those with extensive legal experience to express interest in the role of Magistrate. We would like to emphasize the apolitical role this is, and ask that people respect this process by not campaigning, endorsing, or explicitly supporting any individual for such role.

MAGISTRATE INFORMATION

Magistrates serve on the District Court of the Commonwealth of Redmont. They preside over all cases in the District Court, under the supervision of a Judge or Justice. The‌ ‌District‌ ‌Court‌ ‌of‌ ‌Redmont‌ ‌hears‌ ‌all‌ ‌minor‌ ‌civil‌ ‌and‌ ‌criminal‌ ‌disputes‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌first‌ ‌instance.‌ Each‌ ‌town‌ ‌or‌ ‌city‌ ‌shall‌ ‌be‌ ‌considered‌ ‌a‌ ‌district‌ ‌and‌ ‌shall‌ ‌have‌ ‌one‌ ‌Magistrate.‌ ‌ ‌

Magistrates are expected to maintain judicial integrity and independence, and to perform‌ ‌the‌ ‌duties‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌office‌ ‌fairly,‌ ‌impartially,‌ ‌and‌ ‌diligently.‌

- What are your strengths and weaknesses?:
Strengths
1. I would be remiss not to say meticulous.
2. I enjoy both reading and writing, and I'm trying to do more of both.
3. I'm incredibly passionate about everything I do.

Weaknesses
1. I can be excessively critical.
2. I'm a perfectionist. (Yes, I consider this to be a weakness because of the undue stress it causes. Expecting higher work from yourself is good in moderation, but there's a point where the expectation becomes unachievable and detrimental.)
3. I can struggle with motivation.
4. My social skills aren't the greatest.
(Needless to say, I'm constantly working on all the aforementioned weaknesses.)

- What town/city do you primarily reside in?: Reveille

- Why do you want this position?:
Throughout my time growing up, I never knew what I "wanted to do" with my life. I've considered doing a wide array of different things: math, physics, computer science, government, train conducting, accounting, and, of course, law. From the time I could understand it, I've also been interested in and passionate about politics. Eventually, my combined interest in politics, logic, and rules has ultimately convinced me to pursue law.

I want this position not only because I think it will help me better understand the life direction I'm choosing to go in, but also because, by being in this position, I truly believe I can benefit the server, which I've come to enjoy immensely.

- Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain:
I believe so. In situations where I need to explain my intentions with work, I make sure that the other person knows exactly what I intend to do. At times, to an extent that has admittedly annoyed people. Likewise, if there's any doubt in my mind as to what another person is trying to convey, I won't hesitate to ask them for clarification, even if I end up looking "stupid" for it. Lastly, I'll advocate for what I believe in, but I'm not so blinded by my own beliefs that I can't find compromise with the person I'm talking with or, if the situation demands it, give up my own point.

- What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?:
I have attained the "Attorney" qualification and currently work at DragonLaw. I don't have much to advocate for myself in this category.

- Additional Information:
I'm not sure how much value it would have, but I think it may help my case. I was in the US military for four years, and for two of those years, I worked in Communication Security (COMSEC). Essentially, it was my job to store and manage classified information and COMSEC gear, primarily: radios, devices that held and loaded cryptographic keys, and network encrypting devices (KG-175/250/etc). In this position, I was expected to be familiar with and compliant with multiple military orders. Notable examples were DoDM 5200.01 Vol 1-3 and CMS-1A.

I'll admit, I'm not the most qualified candidate. No doubt, there are more experienced, practiced, capable, and respected individuals who deserve the position more than I. I'm applying only to heed the advice, "An opportunity not taken is an opportunity lost."
