The Supreme Court has decided to open up an expression of interest forum for those with extensive legal experience to express interest in the role of Magistrate. We would like to emphasize the apolitical role this is, and ask that people respect this process by not campaigning, endorsing, or explicitly supporting any individual for such role.

MAGISTRATE INFORMATION

Magistrates serve on the District Court of the Commonwealth of Redmont. They preside over all cases in the District Court, under the supervision of a Judge or Justice. The‌ ‌District‌ ‌Court‌ ‌of‌ ‌Redmont‌ ‌hears‌ ‌all‌ ‌minor‌ ‌civil‌ ‌and‌ ‌criminal‌ ‌disputes‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌first‌ ‌instance.‌

Magistrates are expected to maintain judicial integrity and independence, and to perform‌ ‌the‌ ‌duties‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌office‌ ‌fairly,‌ ‌impartially,‌ ‌and‌ ‌diligently.‌ Individuals who hold political office will not be selected unless they explicitly indicate they are willing to resign if offered a position in the judiciary.

- What are your strengths and weaknesses?:

One of my main strengths is my experience in law. Throughout the years, I have served in multiple legal roles, including Chief Justice. This gives me a strong understanding of the law and courtroom management.

A weakness I continue to work on is that I like doing things quick, which can sometimes lead to imperfect work.

- What town/city do you primarily reside in?: Redmont

- Why do you want this position?:

I want to return to an active judicial role where I can continue to learn and improve my abilities. I believe the position allows me to contribute to the legal field in a consistent and efficient manner.

- All Magistrates are required to possess the Attorney qualification, have you passed that exam?:

Yes

- Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain:

Yes. My time serving alongside multiple Judicial Officers required constant communication to ensure efficiency. I understand the importance of respectful disagreement and collaboration in decision making

- What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?:

I have been involved in different jobs within the Executive and the Legislative branches, which allowed me to get a better understanding of how the law functions before and after it reaches the courts. I am also in the SDP Legal Team and offer private legal advice to clients.

- What are your strengths and weaknesses?:

Strengths:
1. Activity -> Currently I do have a summer break, which means I am not significantly held up by real life academic work.
2. Supervising Work -> I've done a lot of supervising work in my time as an employee of Talion & Partners Inc., I've helped train the prospective litigators of Redmont and this has helped me build the skill of scrutiny.
3. Ability to Learn from Mistakes -> Of course, this is an expected skill from any prospective Magistrate, but whenever I am corrected on my mistakes, I try to learn as much from them so as to not repeat them. We are all human, and we all make mistakes, and what I can do is learn from those experiences.
4. Understanding Legal Arguments -> Not all legal arguments are perfect and there is no shame in that. Most of us are non-professionals doing this in our free time, but in my experiences as a supervisor, I've been able to understand lesser put arguments that may not be to the point, but are substantial at their core. I believe this is a necessary skill where some arguments put before a JO may not be easy to understand, but still do have some points worth noting.

Weaknesses:
1. Argumentative -> Unfortunately, I may come off as argumentative or rude a few times, especially when prompted in the wrong way. And I must admit this as a fault of mine. Of course, I have no ill intent, and I'm working on this myself.
2. Miss minor details -> I may miss minor details from time to time.
3. Spelling -> I suck at spelling and Grammarly doesn't work for me (currently), so if I type fast I may commit a few typos
4. May have to Recuse for now -> I've been involved in a lot of the cases on the DCR docket, however, as new cases come in I won't have as many CoIs.
5. Occasional Burnout -> Almost every lawyer on Redmont experiences this and I have too, and where I feel burned out I will try my best to mitigate and take LOAs when I don't have cases on my docket.

- What town/city do you primarily reside in?:
Reveille

- Why do you want this position?:
I've been in the legal field since mid-January on Redmont and I believe I am a well established lawyer. I have always wanted to serve the people and provide justice. Currently, there is a need for judicial manpower and with the Junior Magistrate program I would be able to achieve my aim, and also, this is a phenomenal learning experience for me. There is a famous quote in the legal field of my country, "In a Court of Justice, both parties know the truth, it is the judge who is on trial." I believe this learning opportunity will help me find the truth and deliver justice, and if accepted, I will prove myself in this metaphorical trial.
- All Magistrates are required to possess the Attorney qualification, have you passed that exam?:
Yes.

- Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain:
Yes! I can communicate with other members of the bench. I believe I've demonstrated this in my time in the private sector, where I have been the Director of Training at T&P for a while, I've therefore acted as a bridge between junior lawyers and executive leadership.

- What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?:
I am a Public Defender, Prosecutor at the DoJ, Director of Training @ Talion & Partners Inc., and I've been recently elected as a RBA councillor. I've also written legislation that was introduced (but rescinded at my request).

- Additional Information:

I don't expect the SCR to hire me soon, however, I'd just like to express my interest. I will update this EOI with any substantial work I've done as a RBA Councillor aswell when the time arises! Also, I pledge to resign from all political/elected positions and positions within the DoJ and DoC if hired as Magistrate/Junior Magistrate.

Cleaned up a bit. Will delete this message in a week or so.

In the future, please try to make your cases hyperlinked only, instead of embedded. It's a bit annoying to scroll so far down, it's much more helpful to see all of your case history at a glance. Consider spoilers for extra long histories!

What are your strengths and weaknesses?: My strengths are that I can read through many legal documents, evidence, and understand the background of case quickly. My main weakness is that I burn out after playing for too long, and might take half a day off occasionally (not that often though).

What town/city do you primarily reside in?: Reveille

Why do you want this position?: I have always wanted to serve on the courts, make judicial decisions, and I feel that my prior experience with legal documents in real life can help me in the court.

All Magistrates are required to possess the Attorney qualification, have you passed that exam?: Yes

Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain: I previously (and as of writing this, currently) served as a member of the House of Representatives. My communication skills greatly improved from that experience.

What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?:
I've had many clients on this server. I was a personal lawyer who would officiate marriages, give legal advice, and at one point, ran RedmontLaw Firm.

Additional Information:
I write many legal documents for fun in real life, almost like a hobby. I feel like this would help me greatly on the court.

- What are your strengths and weaknesses?

I have strong analytical skills, which will prove to be an excellent trair for a magistrate, as it allows me to analyse cases and evidence in detail. I am also able to work efficiently under pressure. Although I have not been involved in the legal system for a long time, I believe I have a quite broad understanding of the Legal system and laws. I am also a quick learner, which I believe makes me a good fit for the Junior Magistrate program.

I would say for my weaknesses that I'm not very experienced with all kinds of different cases within the legal system. Which is why I believe I would be best fit for the Junior Magistrate Program.

- What town/city do you primarily reside in?: Reveille/Redmont

Why do you want this position?: I am very interested in all things involving the law and especially court cases (I even want to become a lawyer and potentially even a judge in real life!). I would love to help contribute to the community by helping out with handing cases in the District Court.

All Magistrates are required to possess the Attorney qualification, have you passed that exam?: Yes.

Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain: Yes. I have experience with working in a team, I was an attorney at Singeheart, Adams & Associates, where I had to communicate with colleagues to ensure our clients got the best service we could give them.

What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?: As an attorney, I have drafted contracts and provided legal advice and consultations to clients. I am also currently an intern at the DoJ (if that is considered a conflict of interest, I will quit the internship).

Additional Information: I know that I might not be very experienced with court cases, but I am a quick learner and I really think I would learn the ropes quickly as a junior magistrate. I hope you can give me a chance. (I recently handed in my resignation notice at my firm, so the clients in the cases above that I'm representing will be represented by another Attorney, there will not be a conflict of interest).

- What are your strengths and weaknesses?: My strengths include effective management, judicial experience, and good communication skills. I have gained experience effectively managing various things throughout my time on DC, whether managing a department as a Secretary, managing a courtroom as a Judge, or managing administrative tasks as a Court Clerk. Related to this is my experience in the judiciary, through my time as a Judge/Magistrate, which will give me valuable experience in various aspects of judicial procedure and conduct. Finally, I believe that I have good communication skills that I can apply to this position. Judicial Officers need to be able to communicate their decisions well with the respective parties of a case, and I believe I have the skills to perform this vital function. My weaknesses include a busy schedule and sometimes having unavailability pop up unexpectedly. I will ensure that I work around this busyness and be an active Judicial Officer. I will also be sure to make any conflicts known as far in advance as possible in order to minimize the effects of unexpected unavailability.
- What town/city do you primarily reside in?: Oakridge/Reveille
- Why do you want this position: Throughout my five-ish years on this server, I have always been involved in the legal sphere. I have experienced what it is like to be a plaintiff, a defendant, a prosecutor, and a judge. I would like to engage in that judicial sphere once again by becoming a magistrate. I believe that I have learned from my past mistakes as a Judicial Officer, and I'd like to make things right by upholding justice in Redmont. I have vast legal experience that I believe I can apply to this position, and I believe that I can use my skills for the betterment of the Commonwealth through being a magistrate.
- All Magistrates are required to possess the Attorney qualification, have you passed that exam?: Yes
- Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain: I am able to effectively communicate with a team. Throughout my time on DC, I have built up this skill through managing and engaging with fellow employees inside various departments, as well as being involved in various businesses where communication was vital.
- What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?: I've been working in the legal sector for the DOJ for many years now, including as Attorney General and Solicitor General. This gave me vital teamwork, management, and communication skills. I've also been working as a Public Defender and, up until recently, a Police Officer. These taught me the values of public service and looking at the law through real situations, not just as standalone documents. I have worked as a Court Clerk, giving me a good understanding of the behind-the-scenes of the courts. Finally, I've been a Representative, which has given me an understanding of legislative intent and nuances found in many statutes.

Note that the dates may be out of order. There are a few recent cases that ended up at the back. I've also helped with many cases in my time as Solicitor/Attorney General without directly participating in the threads.

- What are your strengths and weaknesses?:
My strengths are:
  • My ability to remain impartial.
  • My knowledge of most influential laws in the Commonwealth.
  • My ability to think quickly.
  • My ability of keeping records and deadlines.
  • My ability of keeping communicated.
  • Good work ethic.
My weaknesses are:
  • I have a sorta busy schedule irl.
  • When I start something it is hard for me to quit.
- What town/city do you primarily reside in?: I reside in mainly Oakridge, but have a house in Reveille and Aventura.

- Why do you want this position?: I want the position of Magistrate because, I first want to grow my experience in the legal field. I have gained a lot of knowledge over the months (and even an year) I have been on this server, however there is still more to learn. I acknowledge that I don’t know everything, and I want to get better with this! Secondly, I want to experience what it is like being in a Judicial Officer role. This is something I have always wished to do, but have never gotten the chance, I hope if chosen I can experience this very important position. Next, I want to make sure the rest of the Courts are not having heavy workloads. As a J-mag I would make sure and assist in making sure my fellow JOs are getting the rest and the help they need. Lastly, I want to make sure justice is upheld on this server. I have seen in the past multiple cases that received a faulty or incorrect verdict, or players that go on trial and don’t get the punishment they should. I want to make sure this doesn't happen again.

- All Magistrates are required to possess the Attorney qualification, have you passed that exam?: Yes.

- Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain: Yes, I am able to effectively work with a team. Some examples of this includes, I currently work in the DoJ as Lead Investigator, this requires me to effectively communicate with my fellow leadership members and other investigators in the Department. I also work in the DoS where I am required to effectively be able to communicate with a team to make sure elections are setup properly, If one error occurs, that can ruin the entire voting process. I finally have experience in multiple other departments where I am required to communicate, such as DPA, DOH, and DHS, and in multiple other companies as an executive.

- What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?: I have lots of legal experience outside the court. I first worked at Theory, Talion & Partners as a Company Executive and Senior Partner for almost a year, this allowed me to gain experience in the legal field in multiple different types of law, such as contract, corporate, and administrative. I helped assist new hires in training and make sure the law firm became the biggest in DC (which it did!). Secondly I have gained experience in the Department of Justice as a State Prosecutor, where I worked for over 3 months helping with cases. This allowed me to learn new types of law and help with my litigation knowledge. Next, I work in the RBI (DoJ Sub-department for investigators) as an Lead Investigator. This allowed me to gain experience in law, communication, and what criminals are most likely to do. I have helped multiple things grow in the department and expand.

- Links to cases you have been involved in: Nothing that is of importance (mostly dismissed cases) can provide if needed.

- Additional Information: Thank you for your consideration, if I am appointed then I will resign from all parties, the doj, and anything else required. (this eoi is for the junior program)

Re: Junior Magistrate Program

- What are your strengths and weaknesses?:

Strengths:
My strengths are legal research, reading, and writing. I enjoy searching through the case archives and analyzing the Acts of Congress, and am comfortable finding controlling rules and applying them to the facts of a case. On impartiality, I hold no office, belong to no party, and have no history with any faction on the server. I am organized, consistent, and I take feedback well. Together, I believe these strengths would enable me to efficiently make impartial decisions that clearly state the facts, the law, and legal reasoning.

Weaknesses: The most obvious is that I am new, but I believe this is also an advantage in some ways. I passed the Attorney exam recently and have not taken a case yet, so while this means I haven’t yet worked through procedure in a real hearing, it also means I have no conflicts of interest and am able to learn the law without needing to unlearn old habits first. I believe this training program would help me turn this weakness into a strength.

- What town/city do you primarily reside in?: City of Reveille

- Why do you want this position?:

I want this position because neutral decision making is a part of the law I want to build experience in, and because the bench is a useful place I can put my training to work for the community. Training under a Magistrate would teach me how the court actually runs, and in the meantime I can help keep the docket moving. I have also read the Judicial Code of Ethics and I am comfortable with what it demands, including impartiality, no ex parte contact, and confidentiality in deliberations.

- All Magistrates are required to possess the Attorney qualification, have you passed that exam?: Yes.

- Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain:

Yes. I am comfortable getting feedback and taking direction from supervisors with more experience or knowledge than me. I ask when I am unsure rather than guess, and I write my reasoning out so whoever reviews my work can follow it. I am active EST late afternoon, evenings, and weekends and respond immediately, so I can keep cases on schedule. I am most proud of my ability to be a calm voice of reason to get difficult or tense moments back on track to be productive.

- What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?:

I recently qualified, so my experience so far is the exam ladder itself and the study behind it, working through the case archives and the Acts of Congress. I have not taken cases yet, which is why the junior program appeals to me.

- If hired, will you be able to provide a complete & fully compliant disclosure as detailed by the Conflict of Interest Standards Act?: Yes.

- Links to cases you have been involved in:

None yet. I will update this post as I get more experience.

- Please show proof of obtaining the Attorney qualification in-game: See attached.

- Additional Information:

I am a law student in real life, so I bring the same research and writing habits here, though I know Redmont law works differently.

Please note that my Discord is fatherlonglegz_78943.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
FatherLongLegz

- What are your strengths and weaknesses?:
I am able to read legal documents and briefs comprehensively, having legislated and been a contract lawyer for a long time on DC.
I am able to dedicate to positions in the long term: I have been in Congress for 10 months and still am in the Department of State, having joined roughly at the same time I got elected to Congress.
I am able to communicate with others and express myself in a sufficient manner.

I know a lot of the more established players, so conflicts of interests may arise.
I can be impatient at times.

- What town/city do you primarily reside in?: City of Reiville

- Why do you want this position?:

I want to serve as a Magistrate because I want to see the other side of the Courtroom. Now that my political career comes to an end, and I am substantially more well versed in the law since the last time I expressed interest, I want to experience the judicial aspect of the server from another perspective.

- All Magistrates are required to possess the Attorney qualification, have you passed that exam?: Yes.

- Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain:

I believe so. In my time at many institutions, I have always had to work with or lead a team. Whether in my old law firm, in the Office of Congressional Affairs, in Politics, in Government Departments, or literally anywhere else in our nation, leading and working and communicating with a team is one of the most important skills required.

- What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?:

I have been a legislator and Member of the OCA for 10 months, I have been a private lawyer for more than a year and I have briefly been a government prosecutor.

Should you wish to appoint me, please give me 72-hours notice in advance, so I am able to divest from all conflicts of interest.

- What are your strengths and weaknesses?:
Strengths: I am sometimes very opinionated, and i am very opinionated about how long the court docket is.
Weaknesses: I care more about my own opinions than I care about the law a LOT of the time. I can suppress this urge but it overtakes me frequently. I'm like, 95% on the "political judge" side of that scale that senator was trying to measure Muggy on.

- Why do you want this position?:
You guys need help and I can crank out some suitable enough verdicts that some of them won't get appealed.

- Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain:
Rarely, doctors have informed me my interpersonal skills are approximately equivalent to an infant.

- What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?:
NOTHING good. I do not think I have ever won a case. I have been in Congress though, so

- If hired, will you be able to provide a complete & fully compliant disclosure as detailed by the Conflict of Interest Standards Act?:
To the best of my ability.

- Links to cases you have been involved in (PLEASE SPOILER, DON'T SPAM THIS THREAD):
My legal prowess should not be discussed. I will not be doing ANYTHING like my serious attempts at legal work. Try my long posts in #politics, or the mess of this application, for my logic and reasoning skills.

- Additional Information:
I am not applying intending to be a serious, effective, academic magistrate. I am offering my services to clean up the docket by speeding through the cases and judging based off of ONLY the information that is accessible in the thread (I MIGHT open links if I am feeling generous), and then offering SOME kind of settlement to the parties, or suggesting dismissal, or some other judgey thing I deem fit.

I will take one case at a time, I will not take any case that seems to have any sort of complex controversy, and I will apologize to the Federal Court each time they have to clean up my mistakes. I will quit once I'm bored, which will probably be quickly, but hey maybe I'll find I have a talent for dismissing cases!

- What are your strengths and weaknesses?:
My strengths include English proficiency, mathematical skills, and logical reasoning.
My weaknesses include a lack of activity due to school (Freshman), impatience, and bursts of surprise.
- Why do you want this position?:
I am currently studying Economics and Philosophy and plan to attend university with an interest in Economics or/and Philosophy, and hopefully law school after graduation. My goal is not to become a lawyer but a judge. This position will help me simulate my real-life goal and help me with my knowledge of the law field. Being a judge isn't just about arguing in court or handling clients, but determining the final verdict, the choice of justice. It is a major responsibility and should be taken seriously. Every time I see a courthouse, the first thing I lay my eyes on is the judges, not the juries, not the lawyers, not the client. The ability to make decisions that affect the future, the world, and many people seems like a great way to serve the country and deliver justice.
- Are you able to effectively communicate with a team? Explain:
Yes, I can handle communication quite well in a team or organization; as you can see in my resume, I have plenty of leadership positions within the past few months. It took me some time to get used to it, but by now my communication skills have achieved a proficient level. I had to master my communication skills during the period of my presidency in Mironia, especially.
- What kind of legal experience do you have on DC outside of the court?:
Currently, I am the dean and adjunct professor of Simple Laws, a law school I started a few weeks ago because I passed my attorney exam and want to create a space where new players or players with an interest in law can get help and socialize with people who have similar interests. The main reason I created Simple Laws is that when I was a barrister, I looked for many days and hours for a place where I could practice law while studying for the exam, but nowhere was accepting me, an unqualified barrister. After I suffered through my hardest times passing the exams, I decided to create this for players who have similar struggles as myself. Apart from this, I have experience reviewing contracts from a long time ago.

I was also the Attorney General and Crown Prosecutor in Mironia for a short period of time before I became President of Mironia.

I was a DoJ Investigator too. As a DoJ Investigator, I peaked in the law side of the DoJ and was fascinated by it. That’s why I currently have a pending application for a DoJ Prosecutor position.
- If hired, will you be able to provide a complete & fully compliant disclosure as detailed by the Conflict of Interest Standards Act?:
Yes, of course.
- Links to cases you have been involved in (PLEASE SPOILER, DON'T SPAM THIS THREAD):
I have not been involved in ANY case, only one where I was the client.
- Additional Information:
Being appointed as a junior magistrate will be a huge accomplishment for me. This would boost my interest and desire too. This is the first step to accomplish my goal in DemocracyCraft.
