A
BILL
To

Amend the Constitution

The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Pocket Veto Amendment”
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.

2 - Reason
(1) Currently, the President may utilize a silly pocket veto as a manoeuvre to exercise veto powers over a bill by taking no action, and to avoid any potential veto override.
(2) The amended section makes it know the gravity of allowing a bill to auto-veto through the inclusion of "will be in violation of their constitutional duties."
(3) The President has requested an Auto-veto to allow this bill Presidential Assent.
(4) Congress gets 48 hours to debate, review, and vote on bills. The president gets 72 hours.

3 - Amendment
(1) Added to Section 1 “The Congress”:
“Once the bill has passed through Congress, it is then sent to the President for their approval. The President has 5 days to sign or veto a bill from the time that they are notified, otherwise he or she will be in violation of their constitutional duties and the bill will be auto-vetoed."

Voting nay-- 5 days is way too long.

5 days is absurd but its better than infinite. Once this passes I'd like for the house to amend it to 4.

For now let's try how it works, and we can still look for an amendment in the future.

This bill has received presidential assent and may be put to a referendum.
