Pharmacist Guide
Welcome to the Department of Health guide for pharmacists. The job is important to the wider health economy so please take the time to read carefully.
GETTING STARTED
To begin working as a pharmacist, you must first pass the DOH pharmacist licensing exam at University Hospital. The exam is not long, and all the information required to pass it can be found in this guide or the Pharmacy Policy. Once you pass, you will receive your Pharmacist Licence and can begin practising. After receiving your licence, the simplest way to start is through personal dispensing. This means crafting and supplying treatments directly to players on an occasional or ad hoc basis. At this stage, you are not running a pharmacy. You are simply using your licence to prepare and provide treatments when and where needed. This is a good way to become familiar with recipes, treatments, and patient interaction without needing to manage a full operation.
However, personal dispensing has limits. If you begin supplying treatments regularly, from a fixed location, or using chestshops or signage as part of a standing service, you will be treated as operating a pharmacy. At that point, you MUST either register a pharmacy or stop operating in that way.
If you want to move beyond personal dispensing but are not ready to set up your own pharmacy, the DOH provides rental pharmacy locations outside Reveille Main Hospital. These are pre-built pharmacy setups that you can rent and operate without needing to register a pharmacy yourself.
While renting one of these locations, you are responsible for how it operates, how treatments are dispensed, and ensuring it complies with DOH policy. You may not rent more than one location at a time, and you cannot rent one while also owning or acting as responsible pharmacist for another pharmacy.
Rental pharmacies are intended as a stepping stone to help you gain experience running a pharmacy before committing to setting up your own.
SETTING UP A PHARMACY
If you want to operate a pharmacy of your own, you MUST register it with the Department of Health. To register a pharmacy, you must first decide who the owner will be. The owner may be an individual or an entity and is responsible for ensuring the pharmacy remains properly registered and compliant with DOH policy. The owner does not need to be a pharmacist, but being the owner doesn't grant them a license to operate outside of their pharmacy.
You must then determine the operating location of the pharmacy. This must be a valid plot where chestshops are permitted, used solely for the pharmacy, and lawfully controlled by the pharmacy. The pharmacy will only be allowed to operate from locations that are formally recorded on its registration.
Each location must also have a responsible pharmacist. This must be a licensed pharmacist who is accountable for ensuring treatments are dispensed lawfully at that location and that all DOH policy is followed. The responsible pharmacist must be clearly identified at the location, ideally on a sign.
Once you have an owner, at least one operating location, and a responsible pharmacist, you can submit an application to register the pharmacy with the DOH. Upon approval, a one-time registration fee of $500 will be charged.
After registration, the pharmacy may begin operating from its approved location. If you later wish to add or change locations, you must apply to amend the registration by sending a reply in the application thread, and additional fees may apply. Each registered location is also subject to a monthly upkeep fee, and failure to pay required fees may result in the pharmacy’s registration being suspended or revoked.
CRAFTING AND SUPPLY
Once you are licensed and either personally dispensing or operating from a pharmacy, your main responsibility is ensuring that treatments are available when patients need them. When you need to prepare a treatment, you should begin by using /recipes to locate it. Most treatments are not crafted in a single step. Instead, they require you to follow a chain of intermediate items and precursors. Take the time to work through this chain properly, gathering the required materials and completing each stage in order. If you are stuck on which treatments to craft or how to craft them, use the RNF to help you.
Once treatments have been prepared, they need to be made available to patients. The most common way to do this is through chestshops. When setting up chestshops, you should ensure that each treatment is sold individually and clearly labelled so patients know exactly what they are buying. Chestshops used as part of a pharmacy must be owned by either the pharmacy owner or the responsible pharmacist, and must only allow players to buy treatments, not sell them.
Beyond direct sales to patients, pharmacists may also supply equipment and precursors through government tenders. From time to time, the Department of the Interior will request supplies for use in DOH hospitals and clinics. Participating in tenders allows you to produce treatments in bulk and supply them to the government. This can be a useful way to support the wider healthcare system while also generating income.
Tenders can be found here. The DOH will announce when a tender is aimed directly at pharmacists.
USEFUL COMMANDS
There are several commands that pharmacists need to know to do their jobs properly. You should become familiar with them all:- /health list diseases - lists all implemented diseases.
- /health list symptoms - lists all implemented symptoms.
- /health list treatments - lists all implemented treatment items.
- /recipes - opens the recipe UI to find recipes for cures.
- /health symptoms - lists the current symptoms of the player who runs the command.
- /health sideeffects - lists the current side effects affecting the player who runs the command.
- /health vaccines - lists the current effective vaccines of the player who runs the command.
- /health temperature - shows the current temperature of the the player who runs the command.
