Amend the Criminal Code Act

The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

1 - Short Title and Enactment

(1) This Act may be cited as the 'Perjury Expansion Act.'

(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.

(3) This Act has been authored by vvirtue_.

(4) This Act has been co-sponsored by gribble19.

2 - Reasons

(1) The current definition of perjury in the Criminal Code Act restricts it to only apply in a court of law.

(2) Outside of potentially being held in Contempt of Congress, there is no legal consequence to lying during a congressional hearing.

3 - Amendments to the Criminal Code Act, Part III: Proper Administration Of Justice

(1) Part III of the Criminal Code Act will be amended as follows:

1 - Perjury
Offence Type: Indictable
Penalty: Up to 500 Penalty Units; up to 60 minutes imprisonment
A person commits an offence if the person:
(a) knowingly provides false testimony in a court of law.
(b) knowingly provides false testimony in a congressional hearing.
