TO
Amend the Legislative Standards Act
BILL
TO
Amend the Legislative Standards Act
The residents of Willow, through their elected representatives in the Commission and the force of law ordained to that Commission by the people through the Willow Charter, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:
PART I - PRELIMINARIES
1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the 'Oaths of Office Act'.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
(3) This Act has been authored by Sujal1048J.
(4) This Act has been co-sponsored by EmeraldGuuy LemonRollz.
(5) This Act amends the following Acts:
(a) Willow Legislative Standards Act
2 - Reasons
(1) The Willow Legislative Standards Act does not currently establish formal oaths of office for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioners.
(2) This amendment establishes such oaths and provides a formal process for their administration.
(3) This amendment ensures that elected officials formally affirm their commitment to the Constitutions of Willow, the Commonwealth of Redmont and to the residents of Willow.
PART II - OATHS OF OFFICE
3 - Amendments
The Willow Legislative Standards Act shall be amended as follows:
PART XII - OATHS OF OFFICE
(1) All Commissioners can participate, if a date and time is found that suits them all, in an inauguration ceremony. The Commission does not have to do this, as it is purely ceremonial and does not affect the time all Commissioners, Deputy Mayor, and Mayor take office and execute their powers charged to them by the Charter.
(2) The Oath of Office shall be administered by the Clerk at any place of significance within the Town of Willow.
(3) All elected officials, depending on their respective positions, shall be sworn in with the following oath:
(a) The oath for Commissioners: “I, [Name], do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the Town of Willow and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Redmont as a Commissioner, for the people. So help me, Staff.”
(b) The oath for the Mayor: “I, [Name], do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the Town of Willow and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Redmont as the Mayor, for the people. So help me, Staff.”
(c) The oath for the Deputy Mayor: “I, [Name], do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the Town of Willow and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Redmont as the Deputy Mayor, for the people. So help me, Staff.”
