The healthcare system of Redmont can be confusing for new, or returning players. This informational document answers the most commonly asked questions about healthcare and the role of the Department of Health.

GENERAL

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH?
The Department of Health (DoH) is the government office that is responsible for the health and wellbeing of Redmont's citizens. It provides healthcare coverage for various conditions, illnesses, and diseases. The department is lead by the Secretary of Health, the Deputy Secretary, and the Medical Council consisting of Medical Specialists and Epidemiologists.

The department is also responsible for the training and employment of doctors who are empowered to treat most conditions.

HOW DO I GET TO THE HOSPITAL?
You may take a bus to Reveille Main Hospital under 'Frequent Destinations'. There is a bus stop near /spawn, if you are not near one and fall ill. You can also follow /gps hospital to reach it as well.

There are other DoH facilities around Redmont, including clinics in the towns of Oakridge and Aventura.

DO I NEED TO GO TO A PHARMACY?
Not all conditions can be treated by our doctors, some require cures sold by pharmacists. The DoH recognises citizens are not experts in their own health, so if you are sick and unsure, always visit a hospital and one of our doctors will direct you to a pharmacy if needed.

CONDITIONS

WHY DO I HAVE THIS POTION EFFECT?
Many conditions cause potion effects, or even damage over time. If you suspect you are sick, use /health symptoms to see if you have any symptoms of a condition, or a temperature outside the range of 33°-45°. If you do, visit a hospital or clinic for treatment.

HOW DO I KNOW MY SYMPTOMS?
If a doctor asks for your symptoms you can use /health symptoms to check them and let the doctor know.

PAYMENT

HOW DO I PAY?
For treatments provided by DoH doctors in DoH facilities there is no payment needed. Our treatments are all covered by Medicare. If you would rather not pay with Medicare, you can pay out of pocket for a treatment, but you MUST tell your doctor before they administer a treatment if you wish to do so.
WHAT IS MEDICARE?
Medicare is a government insurance policy that covers the cost of treatment. By law, the DoH provides Medicare coverage to everyone for treatments administered by a doctor in a DoH facility, automatically.

Pharmacy cures are not currently covered by the Medicare scheme and so the government does not contribute towards the cost of purchasing them.

For more information on Medicare, please review our Medicare Policy.

DEPARTMENT

HOW DO I BECOME A DOCTOR?
To become a doctor, you first have to sit the trainee doctor exam, found at University Hospital. After passing that exam you must join the Dept. Health Discord server, and create a post in the Trainees channel to join our training programme. Have a read of our Trainee Doctor guide to help you get started with the DoH.

At the end of your training you complete an evaluation. If you pass, the Secretary or Deputy will upgrade your licence to full and offer you a job as a doctor with the department.

WHAT IS AN EVALUATION?
An evaluation is a test given to trainee doctors before they qualify as doctors. It involves tow parts, a mock attend and a series of questions. Afterwards the Medical Specialist will tell you if you passed or failed and will notify department leadership about your grade and advise over hiring decisions.

WHAT IS A LICENCE TO PRACTICE?
The DoH issues licences to practice to medical professionals that are either on or have qualified from their training programme. These licences show that a player is competent at treating others.

Inside the licence is a record of a doctor's medical career.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEDICAL SPECIALIST?
Medical Specialists are trusted members of the DoH team and act as managers within the department. They are hired with the approval of the existing Medical Specialist Team at the discretion of the Secretary. When a position opens, the Secretary will announce that they are taking applications on the Forums. Applications should be active members of the team, with a history in the department, with good problem-solving and leadership skills.

Currently applications are CLOSED.

The Health FAQs are updated at the discretion of the Secretary. Any further questions may be raised via support ticket in the Discord or asking in-game.

Stay healthy!
