Executive Order 48/26 - National Symbols​

By the authority vested in me by the Redmont Constitution
I, Theory Fontaine, President of the Commonwealth of Redmont, do declare the following under this Executive Order:​

Whereas, the Commonwealth should have a clear and coherent body of National Symbols.

Whereas, the symbols of a nation should, wherever reasonably practicable, be chosen by its people.

Whereas, earlier efforts to establish National Symbols were repealed before the people could complete their selection, notwithstanding that public consultation had already begun.

Whereas, National Symbols should be limited to things which the Executive can meaningfully recognise and represent in-game.

Whereas, a lasting body of National Symbols is best secured in statute, and the Executive intends to work with Congress to give these symbols the permanence they deserve.​

Section 1. National Symbols Policy

1. The Department of State shall create and maintain a National Symbols Policy for the Commonwealth.

2. The National Symbols Policy shall:

a. list the National Symbols recognised by the Executive; and​

b. record the manner in which each National Symbol is intended to be recognised or represented in-game.​

3. The National Symbols Policy should ordinarily include, at minimum:

a. a National Sport;​

b. a National Drink;​

c. a National Food;​

d. a National Block;​

e. a National Flower; and​

f. a National Mob.​

Section 2. Selection of National Symbols

1. National Symbols must be chosen by public referendum or other public vote administered by the Department of State at the request of the President.

2. The Department of State shall have broad discretion to determine the timing, format, eligibility, shortlist, thresholds, and administration of any consultation, referendum, or vote under this Executive Order, subject only to the requirements of this Order and the direction of the President.

3. The Department of State should conduct at least one public consultation, inviting suggestions and reasoned proposals from the public, before finalising any shortlist.

4. In discharging its functions under this Section, the Department of State may build upon, and need not duplicate, any public consultation or preparatory work already undertaken.

5. Before any proposed National Symbol is put to a public vote, the Department of State shall publish:

a. the proposed symbol, or shortlist of proposed symbols;​

b. the reasoning behind the proposal(s); and​

c. the intended means by which the symbol would be recognised or represented in-game if selected.​

6. The Department of State should not ordinarily advance proposals which lack any practical means of recognition or representation by the Executive.

7. Unless otherwise stated in advance, the option receiving the greatest number of valid votes cast shall be recognised as the relevant National Symbol and entered into the National Symbols Policy.

Section 3. Recognition and Representation

1. The Department of State shall coordinate the recognition and promotion of National Symbols across the Executive.

2. Executive departments shall, where relevant and reasonably practicable, support the recognition and promotion of National Symbols under this Executive Order.

3. Executive departments shall cooperate with the Department of State in the implementation of this Executive Order.

4. National Symbols may be recognised or represented through:

a. official announcements, publications, and promotional material;​

b. public events, festivals, celebrations, and commemorations;​

c. official builds, decorations, displays, gardens, parks, museums, monuments, and other public-facing projects; and​

d. the maintenance, use, or display of relevant foods, drinks, blocks, flowers, mobs, or other in-game features.​

Section 4. Codification in Law

1. Upon the conclusion of the selection process, the President shall refer the resulting National Symbols to Congress with a view to their codification in statute.

2. Nothing in this Executive Order prevents Congress from enacting the National Symbols, or the process for their selection, into law; and this Executive Order shall be read so as to complement, and not hinder, any such legislation.

Section 5. Enactment

1. This Executive Order shall apply immediately upon its signage.

2. The Department of State shall complete the selection process and publish the initial National Symbols Policy as soon as reasonably practicable, and shall keep the President informed of its progress.
