I think that's the point: forcing formerly toxic players to do something so ridiculous and almost humiliating guarantees that a much greater appeal applicants are people who really want to be back and who are genuinely willing to reflect on what they did.

Anyone can write "I'm sorry" a hundred times in a paragraph and not mean it, but it takes genuine regret for someone to put in the time to draw a cake.

I get the idea, but it’s clearly embarrassing nobody, also anyone can make a cake poem/draw a cake. Heck, if you enjoy poem writing/drawing it’s not even an inconvenience.
