Trainee Doctor Guide

Welcome to the Department of Health guide for trainee doctors. As a trainee there is a lot of things to learn, this guide should serve as a point of reference for any aspiring or new trainees to help them progress in the Department of Health.

GETTING STARTED

The first task for any trainee doctor is passing the DOH trainee doctor programme entrance exam, which can be taken at University Hospital. The exam is only 10 questions long and is designed to prepare you for your time training to become a doctor. Trainees are expected to study for this exam independently before taking it; all the information needed to pass is freely available on the forums.

When you have passed your exam, head to Reveille Main Hospital and speak to Dr House, he will hand you your PROBATIONARY LICENCE. Don't lose this licence as it is the record of your progress and you will have to restart your training if you do.

Now you have your licence, make sure you have joined the DOH Discord Server and made a post in the Trainees forum channel. You will be assigned a Medical Specialist (MS) who will take you on as your mentor throughout your training. If you are struggling or want some extra support, tag your MS in your forum thread and they will be happy to help. You will also be brought into your MS's cohort for the month you join, this is the group you will be attending classes with. Help each other out to learn!

The department knows it is super exciting joining our team as a traineee, but please, wait until after your first mock attend before seeing any patients. You SHOULD NOT attend a patient you are not confident in treating!

Your training with the DOH will culminate in a final evaluation which will test you on the things you've learnt during your training! Passing your evaluation is a massive achievement, so good luck trainee!!

CLASSES

When you get assigned to a cohort, you will need to arrange to attend classes run by your MS. There are THREE classes that need to be attended during your training and they will teach you about healthcare in Redmont, diseases, diagnosis, treatments, and the DOH and its policies.

Your MS will arrange times for these classes in your cohort post, and you MUST attend all THREE classes in order to move forward with an evaluation. If you are struggling to find a time that works for you and your cohort, inform your MS and the Secretary, and the department will look to find a way to accommodate you, which might include deferring your training until you are able to take the classes.

SKILLS PASSPORT

An important part of your training is filling out your skills passport, found in your probationary licence. The three slots on the right track the number of injuries, diseases, and contagious diseases you have treated. To complete the passport and be eligible for your final evaluation, you MUST have treated FIVE injuries, THREE diseases, and ONE contagious disease.

MOCK ATTENDS

A good way to fill out your skills passport if you are struggling to attend to patients, is by asking your MS to run a mock attend with you. They should ideally run one with you early into your training to help you get to grips with the systems and diagnosing diseases. The mock attend can be done informally, where you are free to ask as many questions as you like going through, or more formally, where your MS will pretend to be an evaluation assessor. A formal mock attend during your training is not as serious as the one in your final evaluation but it will help you to get to grips with how that attend will be marked and how well you are coming along with your training.

EVALUATION

When you have completed your skills passport and attended all your classes, you are ready to request an evaluation. Your MS should help you to find an assessor, who will be another MS who ideally hasn't helped you out with your training. The evaluation has two parts, both of which you need to pass in order to pass the evaluation. The first is a mock attend, it will be similar to mock attends run with your MS, but this one is under exam conditions and your assessor wont be able to provide as much help as your MS did during your training. The second part is a 10 question exam done in the assessor's office in the hospital. The pass mark for both parts of the evaluation is 60%.

If you pass, congratulations, your assessor will notify you and the secretary of your achievement! You will need to head to Janine, the PA outside the secretary's office and post your licence to GovHealth. The Secretary will then approve your licence as a full licence-to-practice and offer you a job as a doctor with the DoH. Your shiny new licence will be available to pick up from Dr House.

If you don't pass your evaluation this time round, you will be provided with plenty of feedback so you can study for your next attempt. It is a good idea to leave it at least a week, if you can, before attempting another evaluation. This way you have plenty of time to go back to your MS and receive more training from them based on your feedback.

If you fail a second time, the Secretary or the Deputy will arrange a meeting with you to discuss what further support you might need and steps moving forward with the DoH.

USEFUL COMMANDS

There are several commands that doctors need to know to do their jobs properly, as a trainee you should become familiar with them all:
  • /doh - switches to the DoH employee channel in game to talk only with your colleagues.
  • /doctor-attend <patient> - teleports you to the hospital from where your patient requested assistance.
  • /bulkbill <patient> - charges the department for a Medicare co-payment towards treatment costs.
  • /health list diseases - lists all implemented diseases.
  • /health list symptoms - lists all implemented symptoms.
  • /recipes - opens the recipe UI to find recipes for cures.
It is also a good idea to know these commands as you might need to ask a patient to run them for you:
  • /health symptoms - lists the current symptoms of the player who runs the command.
  • /health temperature - shows the current temperature of the the player who runs the command.

The Trainee Doctor Guide is updated at the discretion of the Secretary. Any further questions may be raised via support ticket in the Discord or asking around in-game.

Stay healthy!
