To


Make towns able to create their own referendums​

The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Town Referendum Act”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
(3) This Act was written by Rep. Twiscet.
(4) This Act has been co-sponsored by Rep. Omegabiebel.

2 - Reasons
(1) This act would empower residents of towns to be more involved with their town's government.

3 - Referendums
(1) The mayor of a town shall have the authority to order a referendum on a subject or bill.
(a) The town council shall have the power to repeal the mayor's referendum order by a supermajority vote.
(b) The mayor shall set out how long voting on the referendum shall last as well as what the citizens of a town shall be voting on.
(c) Voting on a referendum can last a minimum of 24h and a maximum of 72h.
(d) The result of a referendum shall override the vote of the town council on a bill.
(2) The timeline of a referendum shall be as follows:
(a)The mayor puts forward a referendum.
(b) Then the town council shall have one week to be able to propose and vote on the removal of the referendum.
(c) Voting opens for the citizens of a town to vote on the referendum.
(d) Voting closes on the referendum and all votes get counted by the DOS.
(e) When counting the votes is done the mayor shall release the results.
