Removal of the Sheriff Role in the Town of Oakridge

The citizens of Oakridge, through their elected Representatives in the Town-Council and the force of law ordained to that Town-Council by the people through the constitution of Oakridge, do hereby enact the following provisions into the by-laws:

1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the 'Removal of Sheriff in the Town of Oakridge Act.'
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.

Town Constitution

ARTICLE II - THE EXECUTIVE



Section I:

(iv) Remove Executive Officers, Mayoral Advisors and the Chief of Staff and the Sheriff at their pleasure.

Section VIII:
The Sheriff is a member of the Executive who is in charge of the Oakridge Police Department. The Sheriff must be a current Police Officer or higher rank in the Department of Homeland Security.

The Sheriff is nominated by the Mayor and must be approved by the Town Council with a simple majority. The Sheriff serves a term that is concurrent with the Mayor.


ARTICLE III -
OFFICES



Section I:

Office of Legal Affairs

The Office of legal affairs is charged with the following responsibilities:

(1) Advising the Mayor and town council over any legal matters.

(2) Make sure all Town laws are abiding by the Commonwealth's.

(3) Maintaining the peace and good order of the Town of Oakridge, through lawfully exercising its power equally to enforce the laws of the Town of Oakridge

(4) Providing security to Oakridge government officials and events

(5) Maintaining criminal records for local crimes within Oakridge

(6) Providing criminal records upon request (the requesting individual must be party to the record requested, or be a court ordered request) within 7 days.

(7) Managing all Criminal and Legal matters for the Town of Oakridge, not counting the tasks of Commonwealth institutions

Leadership:

(1) Town Attorney General

(2) Town Sheriff

(a) To be appointed by the Town Attorney General

ARTICLE VI - REQUIREMENTS





Section I:

Each position in the Town of Oakridge shall need certain requirements that must be fulfilled before a person may run for or be appointed to that position which are listed here:

Town Council


  • Has been 1 week since the player's initial join date;
  • Has accrued 16 hours of total playtime;
  • Has accrued 8 hours of active playtime within the last 30 days;
  • Is an Oakridge Resident (must be maintained throughout term).
Mayor


  • Has been 1 month since the player's initial join date;
  • Has accrued 48 hours of total playtime;
  • Has accrued 12 hours of active playtime within the last 30 days;
  • Is an Oakridge resident (must be maintained throughout term);
  • Has not served as Mayor during both the previous two Mayoral terms;
  • Is not a Mayor/Deputy Mayor of another town.
Executive Officer, and Chief of Staff, and Sheriff


  • Has been 1 week since the player's initial join date;
  • Has accrued 16 hours of total playtime;
  • Has accrued 8 hours of active playtime within the last 30 days;
  • Is an Oakridge resident (must be maintained throughout term).
Section II:
The Mayor may not serve as an Executive Officer, Mayoral Advisor, or Chief of Staff, or Sheriff.

No person may simultaneously hold more than one Executive Officer seat.

ARTICLE VII - KEY DEFINITIONS



Section II:
Any usage of the generalized terms having the same name as Oakridge positions without specifying Oakridge in Oakridge legislation shall refer specifically to positions in Oakridge unless specified otherwise, including, but not limited to:

  • Town Council
  • Mayor
  • Executive Officer
  • Mayoral Advisor
  • Chief of Staff
  • Sheriff
  • Resident

Oakridge Bylaws​

Deputy/Sheriff Act
1. Employment of Deputies
a. A Deputy Sheriff (deputy) is an employee of the Oakridge Police Department, who is appointed at the discretion of the Sheriff or Acting Sheriff.
b. All deputies must be a current Police Officer or higher rank within the Department of Homeland Security to be appointed.
c. Deputies are allowed to quit without notice.
d. Deputies are to remain deputies when a new Sheriff is elected.
i. Clarification: The clause above is meant to clarify that deputies are not appointed by a Sheriff each term, and the new Sheriff still has the power outlined above.
2. Duties of Deputies
a. The following are a deputy's duties:
i. Enforcing all local laws of Oakridge within the Town's borders;
ii. Attending all Oakridge government events to provide security, if possible.
b. Deputy failure to complete the above duties will result in a verbal warning, and if failure happens over five times within a single month, they are to be removed and cannot be appointed again.
