Prevent criminals from being elected into office

The people of DemocracyCraft, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “No Criminals in Congress Act”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
(3) The Act has been co-sponsored by: Rep. poemhunter

2 - Reasons
(1) Criminals shouldn’t be elected into Congress, it is hypocritical to see a Congressman propose laws while actively breaking them.
(2) It would deter politicians away from crime to pursue a career in Congress.

3 - Requirements
(1) In order to run for Representative or Senator, candidates must be at least two-weeks crime free.
(2) The Department of State will ensure that if anyone that declares candidacy for either Representative or Senator has been arrested two weeks prior or less, they will not be added onto the ballot.

4 - Exceptions
(1) If the individual running for office has been pardoned by the President, and the crime(s) that was/were pardoned was within the two-week period, their criminal record shall not have any effect on their candidacy eligibility.
(2) If the individual was deemed falsely arrested or the arrest(s) in question is/are in any way officially and legally voided, their criminal record shall not have any effect on their candidacy eligibility.
