CONGRESS OF THE
COMMONWEALTH OF REDMONT

A BILL TO

NOT TAX CHESTSHOPS

The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

PART I — PRELIMINARIES

1. Short Title and Enactment

(1) This Act may be cited as the ‘No Chestshop Taxes Act’.

(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.

(3) This Act has been authored by Senator unalign and Representative Kaizered.

(4) This Act has been sponsored by Representative Kaizered.

(5) This Act has been co-sponsored by Senator unalign.

(6) This Act amends the following Act:

(a) Taxation Act.

2. Reasons and Intent

(1) Congress is meant to represent the people of the Commonwealth of Redmont and the people are angry right now at chestshop tax.

(2) This Act maintains a 0% chestshop sales tax so that ordinary commerce remains accessible and affordable for the people of Redmont.

(3) A chestshop sales tax affects ordinary shop owners and buyers alike, as sellers may need to increase prices to recover the tax withheld from their sales.

PART II — AMENDMENTS TO TAXATION

3. Chestshop Sales Tax

(1) Part IV, Section 13(1) of the Taxation Act shall be amended as follows:

(1) A chestshop sales tax of 2.5% is imposed on every chestshop transaction.

(1) A chestshop sales tax of 0% is imposed on every chestshop transaction.

:nay: - The Chestshop Tax is a step to getting the Government out of its $100m+ debt. Taxing 2.5% of each transaction isn't unreasonable. Out of a $100 transaction you only lose $2.5.

One of your main arguments ingame was that we need to defund other departments and this tax works on chestshops with item listings of $0.1 or less. I agree that we need to change the Tax surrounding that and some Departments will need funding, but completely getting rid of the tax won't solve the problems.

:nay: - would you rather cut Medicare, public transport, and almost all public government services? I think that already almost nobody is spending $100 at a chest shop most of the time. and even if they do, they are paying just over 2 dollars in tax. It barely affects people.

:nay: - Whilst the public is outraged at a chestshop tax it ultimately is a fiscally responsible decision to maintain one — even if it is lowered. I cannot support a bill which taxes 0%, nor can I support one which does not make the provisions to include tax into the price on the sign.

I would support a bill which lowers it to 1.5% and includes the necessary provisions to include the tax into the price on the sign.
