To
Provide for a community service program
The people of Democracy Craft, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:
1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Community Service Act”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
(3) The Act has been co-sponsored by: TBC
2 - Reasons
(1) Fines and incarceration are not always the most effective nor best option to correct illegal behaviour.
(2) An alternative for someone who is financially challenged.
3 - Community Service Scheme
(1) The courts may award hours in community service as an alternative to mandated fines or jail time on a case by case basis, where the court sees fit.
(2) Hours in community service will be awarded in a proportionate manner to the fine or jail time that it is replacing.
(3) Community service is capped at 2 hours.
(4) The Chief of Staff will be responsible for overseeing the scheme, assigning work to those awarded community service, as well as to report to the court case thread when the community service has been completed.
(5) Failure to complete the community service within 30 days of sentencing will result in a revised sentencing, where the court will issue the original punishment in fines or jail time (Increased by 10% for failing to fulfil community service obligations).
