BILL

Clarify Minimum Wage

The people of Democracy Craft, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Minimum Wage Amendment Act (II)”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.

2 - Reasons
(1) At this time the law on Minimum Wage leaves details for interpretation. Under the current law, employees would be able to sue for normal and frequent company practices that many players have already accepted as okay.

3 - Terms
“A player is entitled to a minimum of 10$ for every 15 minutes of work.” is changed to:
In the following situation, the current minimum wage of $10 for 15 minutes of work applies:
  • An employee is providing a service for an employer.

In the following situation, the current minimum wage of $10 for 15 minutes of work does not apply:
  • An employee supplying a specific product to an employer. The payment however is discussed previously to the exchange of product and must be agreed by both parties.

4 - Explanation
A service-based job applies well to minimum wage because the company is paying for the time worked by an employee. A product-based job does not as the company is not paying for the time worked directly, but instead paying for the product itself. With minimum wage for that, it is up for interpretation what would count as “time worked”. For example, if a player is supplying iron for a company, would the time spent mining be included in time worked? If so, the miner would be able to purposely spend more time mining than need be in order to get more payment. If someone giving a product is unsatisfied with the price, they can go to another employer and try to sell there. I do not expect this bill to change much, simply clarify an existing point of differing interpretation.
